Twitch is a streaming platform that has become popular in recent months, with some of the best content creators on the planet present. This platform, mainly focused on gamers but that can be used for very different purposes, has many possibilities, among which there is even a chat to interact with other users in real time.
However, despite the fact that it is a platform that has a very simple to use and intuitive interface, making some changes to the account may not be as simple as it may seem. This time we are going to explain how to change your public Twitch name, so that you do not have any problem when doing it.
First of all, you must bear in mind that remembering the public name is a good way to ensure that users can remember you, since they will identify you by it. Your public name will appear in the chat, although you should not confuse it with your username, despite the fact that they are directly related, since, although it is not the same the public name has to be exactly the same as the username.
For this reason, you will not be able to change one name in any way without changing the other, since they are exactly the same in that effect. However, there is a difference between them and that is that in the public name a distinction can be made between upper and lower case, while in the user name they will only appear lowercase.
To be able to change the public name on Twitch you just have to click on the drop-down menu that you will find in Configuration. This will automatically take you to another screen and then go to the section Profile settings, where you will find different options, such as the username, public name and biography, as you can see in the following image:
If you want to change your public name, you must first change your username.- To do this, on that same page, you will have to click on Username and change it for a new one. As is logical, it must be a username that is not being used by someone else and that, if you change it, you won't be able to do it again for 60 days, so you must value it and take it into account.
On the other hand, you must keep in mind that this process you can only do it from the computer, so you can't do it through the mobile app. In any case, it will be a very simple process to carry out and if you don't have a computer, you can always access the desktop version through the browser on your mobile phone.
It is recommended that you always choose a name that is easy to remember, since through it you will be able to find the users who use Twitch when entering it in the search engine, so that if you choose one that is written in a complicated way or is difficult to remember it will not be the most beneficial.
As with the rest of platforms and social networks, it is preferable to look for an account that has a username that is as easy to remember as possible, for which it is advisable to keep it as short as possible, while being descriptive. This way it will be easier for them to remember you and find you on the streaming platform.
However, it may be that you do not stream and what you want is to simply comment on the chats of different channels or have conversations with other users, you can change it and choose the one you like without it being so easy to remember.
How to stream on Twitch
If you want to learn to stream on Twitch, you should know that you must meet a series of requirements, which, although they are minimal, you must have a computer powerful enough to do so. However, you will not need great features either.
You must also have a Twitch compatible streaming tool, for which you can use applications such as Streamlabs OBS or OBS Studio. In any case, on previous occasions we have told you about them, so you can find information about them on our blog.
You will also have to have a webcam and a microphone. In the case of the webcam, it is not so important, since you will be able to stream without users being able to see you, although it will always be better to do so, since this way you will be able to better reach users.
When you have all the basic requirements to be able to stream, you will have to request the Stream Key on Twitch, a key that allows a live broadcast to be displayed on the channel. You can request it by going to the Configuration and later go to Stream Key on Twitch.
Then you must enter the password in the streaming tool to be able to connect it to the channel. To do this, you must go to the streaming program Settings, in the Stream or Transmission Settings section, placing the password in the Stream Key section and clicking on apply. You should check that Twitch is selected in the Service section.
It is important that you keep in mind that the configuration of the tool should not be changed, with a preset configuration that works properly. When you open the OBS program you must create a new scene by default, then open the game or application to be broadcast and start the preview in the program.
Later you will have to go to the sources menu to click with the right mouse button and then add and capture game. After adding scenes and selecting the camera, you can configure the audio and voice, configuring everything to your liking until you finally click on Start Transmission.
In this way you can stream on Twitch from your computer in a comfortable and simple way. Remember that you will need an internet account that is stable enough so that there are no outages or inconveniences during live broadcasts.
