Filters are already part of our daily lives, being increasingly used in all areas, not only in social networks, but also in the cameras of mobile devices, both when taking photographs and when making video recordings, taking selfies, etc.

In fact, although there are many social networks in which they are used, more and more people are turning to these filters to later send photos or videos through WhatsApp, whether in individual or group conversations, and also to upload to the States, a function that, although it has not reached the same popularity as Instagram stories, is also used by many people to share all kinds of content with their contacts, mainly related to day-to-day life as it is something more personal.

You can apply filters to WhatsApp photos before sending them, without the need to use additional applications, although many people do not know how to retouch whatsapp photos without leaving the app, which is what we are going to explain to you throughout this article.

This is an interesting function, since in this way you will not have to download other additional applications to your device to be able to do the editing. However, this function is not something that has been with us for a long time, hence it is still somewhat unknown.

There are two options to customize WhatsApp photos, do it with the ones you already have in your photo gallery or take photos directly from the camera. Both options allow us to add some default filters, but they do not allow us other options such as controlling the brightness, contrast, saturation, although they can only be added filters already created or add some kind of sticker, sticker, text, drawing...

How to add filters in WhatsApp

There are a few whatsapp filters and it is not possible to download more unless the application itself adds them with an update, and specifically we can only use a few of them, which are the following:

  • Pop, which is responsible for adding saturation to the image.
  • White and black, which, as you can tell from its name, converts the image to black and white.
  • Cool, which is a filter that is responsible for highlighting lines and focus.
  • Chrome, which gives the image warm tones and saturation.
  • Movie.

In this way, there is only the possibility of using one of these five filters or choosing None if there is none of them that convinces you. Having said that, there are a series of steps that can be followed to add them to our photos, either in a new photo or in a photo that you have in your gallery. However, it must be clear that when it comes to knowing how to retouch WhatsApp photos without leaving the app with the filters, they can only be added to photos on WhatsApp, but not to videos. In the latter case, another external application would have to be used.

To add WhatsApp filters to a photo from the gallery, follow these steps:

  1. First of all you will have to open the conversation you want in the WhatsApp application.
  2. Go to the clip icon that you find in the lower right corner of the screen, and then choose the option of images or photographs.
  3. The phone gallery will open, to go to the image or folder you want. Then follow the steps below to add the filter in question.

Here you can also follow other steps, which are the following:

  1. You have to open the conversation camera that is in the bottom corner.
  2. Then you will have to slide up to see how it looks. open recent photos.
  3. Then you will have to scroll until you find the one you are most interested in modifying, you must select photo, which will thus open on a large screen.
  4. By doing so you will see how there is an arrow along with the inscription Filter at the bottom, then slide the screen up. In this way you will see all available filters.
  5. In that place you will have to choose the filter you want, sliding the screen down to make the filters disappear. Then tap the green button on the right to send.

These would be the steps with a photograph that you may already have in the gallery. However, the process is practically the same if what you want is add whatsapp filters to a photograph you just took.

As you well know, we can take photos if we have given WhatsApp permission to access the mobile camera. If so, follow these steps:

  1. First of all you will have to open the conversation you want, and then go to the camera icon at the bottom right of the screen, on which you will have to press.
  2. You must open the camera of your mobile phone, for later take normal photography or selfie mode.
  3. Then the photo will appear on the screen, sliding up, and then you will see the available filters, which are the same as in the previous case. In that place you will have to choose the filter you want to add.
  4. Then swipe down to make them disappear, and then send the photo to that person or group in the conversation.

So we would have added filters to already made photos as newly created. Although WhatsApp allows you to add other elements, as we will explain below, and it will be the moment in which you will be able to add stickers, texts or draw on photos.

Add other effects to WhatsApp photos

There are three contents that can be added to WhatsApp photos that are stickers or stickers, text or freehand drawing. In all three cases the steps to follow are very similar, which are the following:

  1. Go to the chat you want and tap the camera icon in the text box.
  2. Then swipe up or take a photo.
  3. Next you have to retouch the image on the screen and go to the top where you will see the different icons.
  4. In this way you can click on the stickers or emojis, choose text or draw on the screen.

In this way, we find ourselves with different possibilities to which edit WhatsApp photos from the application itself, thanks to which you can make a series of basic adjustments that allow you to modify the final appearance.
